Special Friends
When a child enters Year 6 they are linked with a child in Reception and become their special friend. As a special friend, Year 6 pupils can spend time with Reception on their yard at playtime and lunchtimes. They will also (on a rota) help the Reception children when they are eating their lunch in the school dinner hall.
We find many opportunities throughout the year for our Reception and Year 6 pupils to be together - for example, reading a book together; having a picnic together in the summer term.
The bond that is created is very special indeed. Our Year 6 pupils show how responsible and caring they are and our Reception children are helped to settle into school in their very first year.
It is difficult for Reception when their Year 6 special friend moves onto high school, but that again, is about life's journey, but certainly it is a bond that is never forgotten.
